My smart goals

My learnign skill Goal is:

This year my goal is focusing in class when I can given due dates and quiz dates – this is all about organization.  What milestones will I pass on the way to my goal? I will be able to build a study plan when I have a test/quiz using the notes from class class and use my agenda given to me. I have a weekly meeting with Ms .M on a Tuesday to help set up my week and Grade 7 have a weekly meeting with Mr Ray to make sure we all have written dates in our agenda and are on track with studying. Is this goal realistic, this goal is perfect for me because I was lacking focus and organization last year and this such an important skills to be able to do it independently ready for Grade 8 and high school and life! Why is this goal worthwhile? It is important because I will learn more ways to be organized and how to reduce my stress and anxiety about my school work and have more time for fun things. The due date for this goal is the end of this school year.

My academic goal for this year is:

I want to improve on data management and financial literacy in math. I want to       understand the unit better and make sure that I understand it more clearly when I need to apply it to other math areas as well as real life skills. The milestone that I will pass is that I will be able to do this work independently in class and practice these skills at home during homework time. This will lead to getting better grades in the unit and this motivation will help keep me on track for the goal. It is realistic for me because I felt that I was really behind last year and I think that Ms Cleveland will help me understand. I already understand more in class! It will help me be more successful in math and help raise my confidence in this subject.

Responsibilities of a Bar/Bat Mitzvah

At the age of 12/13 Jewish people are commanded to read from the Torah and then have a party. This is called a bat mitzvah for girls and a bar mitzvah for boys. You do not have to read from the Torah and it is not a law that if you do not read the Torah you should be killed but it is commanded in the Torah . For a Jewish person at the age of 12/13 the Torah says  if you are a boy you should wear Teffilin which I will get to in just a second and according to the Torah you are a adult you can read from the Torah. for girls it is the same but you are not commanded to wear Teffilin you can but you do not have to . what is a Tallit? What is Teffilin?  Why is it important? Teffilin is something you wear every day but Shabbat and holidays. a Tallit is a prayer shawl and it is worn during prayer. It is important because it symbolizes a connection with god. I found that it is wierd that for a bat/bar mitzvah you do not have to read the Torah.

innovation day reflection

This innovation day this one was the best but most stressful.

This innovation day I thought I was not going to finish. I was stressed and nervous We got to make circuits which was fun but really hard and stressful. I was trying not to panic and scream. When it came time for the judging it was really stressful and scary. The stress was mainly from the judging the time limit and the awards. The research was hard but not as stress inducing and hard as the building one day I was calm and the next day I was screaming my head of from the emotions.

This project was really fun, stressful, tiring, hard, and reliving but in the end I think I did really well.

Jewish studies

This term I learned about the Brit Milah the Baby naming Pidyon Haben and Shalom Zachar. I learned that these things are important because they are traditions and some are because of the Torah and some are not.

The baby naming is important because it is the baby getting named  the Brit Milah is important because it is the sign of the covenant between god and Abraham and all of Abraham’s descendants. The Pidyon Haben is only for the first born if the first born is a boy. It is important because it is forgiving god because of the golden calf. You have to pay the Cohen five silver coins. The shalom Zachar is when the Friday after a baby boy is born you have a  big meal it is tradition but if you don’t want to you don’t have to.

In Jewish studies we did family projects mine is here

click here for my family project

The two interesting facts i learned about my family are….

1. I learned that my family on my dad’s side is from Russia Austria and Poland

2. The second thing I learned is that my mom’s side is from Russia and Poland

If I did this again i would probably change the way that i made the slides it would be more orginaized

public speaking

Do you ever think about what goes through someone’s brain when they have Adhd? Hi my name is Abby. Today I am going to be talking about Adhd. Adhd is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. For me, it is not being able to focus and sit still for a while. I will tell you about what it’s like for other people, not just me. Finally, I’ll be telling you how it is different for each person, what goes through their brain and what they can do to help themselves.

Have you ever thought about how ADHD affects people? It is different for each person.

For me it is that I can’t sit for a long time in one place. For other people, it can be you are super hyper or they just can’t do something or get distracted easily. It is a super power for some people like… people with Adhd are good multitaskers. They can change subjects in a conversation really fast. They also can focus so much on something if they are interested in it. This is called hyper focused.

People without ADHD sometimes can get frustrated by the fact that a person in their class has Adhd. They would think they’re weird and not play with them. It is very sad and it needs to stop. During February we looked at inclusion, we need to keep including people even if they are different. You don’t have the right to exclude someone. I can keep talking forever on just this one point but I think we should talk about what goes on in the brain.

Have you ever thought about what goes through the brian of a person with ADHD? Everyone’s brain is different. Someone with ADHD has a racecar brain! Living with ADHD may give the person a different perspective on life and encourage them to approach tasks and situations with a thoughtful eye. As a result, some people with ADHD may be inventive thinkers. Other words to describe them may be original, artistic, and creative. I am a mixture of all of those words!

Medical studies suggest that people with ADHD have smaller brain volume in certain areas, some of which control emotional response and impulse control, and trouble paying attention which can be a struggle for kids with Adhd. Although ADHD can’t be cured, it can be successfully managed and some symptoms may improve as the child ages.

ADHD isn’t always easy to deal with. I am used to this and have a lot of experience. I have a good doctor and good people taking care of me. But other people might not and that is very sad but also very bad. Also, I have learned that there are downsides. I get distracted easily, I can’t sit for a while, but I am learning strategies to help me with this!

So now let me tell you about different strategies that people with ADHD can use. Some people don’t take pills because it is not so severe. But I do because if I don’t I go crazy! I have very good care, good parents and good doctors.Adhd medicine helps certain pieces of the brain. But mainly targets two brain chemicals, dopamine and norepinephrine. It helps attention and concentration.

So I hope I answered my first question. I hope you learned about what people with adhd are like and how their brain and body work.

Thank you for listening. Just remember, don’t judge a book by its cover.
